Since the Aalborg +10 conference in Aalborg 2004 more than 600 local governments have signed up to the Aalborg Commitments and the number is still increasing. I am very delighted about the massive support which shows that the Aalborg Commitments is a very useful tool for local governments to address the challenges of sustainable development.
In March 2007 we meet in the City of Seville to the Fifth European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Towns. I’m very happy about that this conference enthusiastically promoted the Aalborg Commitment process and gave us an insight of the progress and achievements in local sustainability in Europe, and on the implementation of the Aalborg Commitments.
Between 19 - 21 May 2010 we hopefully will meet again in City of Dunkerque, France at the 6th Sustainable Cities and Towns Conference, where we will have the opportunity to follow up the achievements of the Aalborg Commitments’ signatories. The conference will demonstrate concrete results and showcase the experiences of the many local governments involved in this camapign. At a special ceremonial plenary during the conference on the 20th May 2010 local governments are invited to sign the Aalborg Commitments.
At this web site you will be able to request for signature of the Aalborg Commitments. You will find a variety of information on the Aalborg Commitments e.g. the list of signatories, the Aalborg Commitments document in 18 different European languages, Baseline Review reports, Articles, signing procedures etc.
You will also find relevant background information on the Aalborg Charter and links to the Aalborg +10 & Seville conference and the European Sustainable Cities and Towns Campaign.
Happy browsing!
