This survey has been carried out by ICLEI and the City of Aalborg on behalf of The European Sustainable Cities Campaign (ESCT). The survey is aimed at the current 620 local governments’ signatories to the Aalborg Commitments. The objective has been to evaluate to which degree local governments have improved their sustainable performance after signing up to the Aalborg Commitments.
The survey is based on 24 thematic indicators reflecting the themes of the Aalborg Commitments. The signatory local governments has been asked to assess whether their sustainable performance has decreased, increased or haven’t developed, within each of the indicators. Additionally they have been asked to present 3 examples of successful concrete achievements and results in their local governments after signing the Aalborg Commitments. Selected answers to this question are listed under each theme. The overall conclusion of the survey indicates that a great deal of progress has been made towards sustainable development amongst the local governments which have endorsed the Aalborg Commitments. |
